Objectives of the Alliance

The primary objective of the Victorian Lands Alliance is to initiate public policy which is consistent with the ideals of its member organisations to improve the management of public land.

This policy will ensure active management and sustainable multiple-use of public land that balances the needs of the environment and the community.

Alliance philosophy
  • The Alliance is a peak group whose role is to facilitate and co-ordinate.
  • It provides the table around which parties to an issue can compare campaigns, propose joint action, offer each other support.
  • More importantly, the Alliance can provide the focus required on a major issue, such as improved public land fire management, that may not be a direct objective or in the charter of any one group, but be of real importance to the activities of member groups.
  • The Alliance will present views on genuine peak group issues. These are usually of major and long term significance to all members, transcending individual organisations, their boundaries and their interests.
  • The Alliance seeks to have a good working relationship with all sides of politics, all stakeholders and all bureaucrats, even where there are disagreements over policy.
  • The Alliance seeks to bring out the positive aspects of issues under consideration and to highlight these, rather than adopting a negative or confrontational stance.
  • The Alliance seeks to deal objectively with issues via evidence and a science based approach.
  • The Alliance would argue strongly for access to public land and sustainable multiple use of public land.
  • The Alliance does not seek to limit the rights or interfere in the operation of any member group.
